Marathon Prep: Final Training

The Marathon of Utrecht is next week Monday (second easter day). I received my start number yesterday, it's 696. With 7 days remaining, I just completed my last training with a 3:30 hour run (approximately 37 km). The weather sucked (rain all the way), I hope it is going to be better next week. Nevertheless, it went quite OK, so despite all the setbacks two months ago, I think I'm going to do just fine.

I've been training hard the last two months, with each week two long distance trainings (20+ km and 30+ km respectively), two times general fitness (1:30 hour cardio, 1 hour strength each time), condition training with spinning (50 min), and some minor exercise at home. It totals up to a high training volume, although with a low training intensity because I was afraid to get hurt again. All this physical training fitted well with the mental exercise of writing a paper at work. On the other hand, this amount of training comes nowhere close to the training volume of marathon training schedules (which contain five running sessions a week...).

So, this coming week I focus on recovery: a lot of eating and sleeping. Maybe a tiny amount of exercise (fitness and spinning), but no real training, only to prevent getting stiff. Then I should be rested and ready to run the marathon...
