The Lucilia Trip

I'm going to Brazil for half a year to work together with Lucilia and Carlos, whom I met when I was in Uruguay some months ago. Lucilia was in the Netherlands to visit the AFP and TFP conferences, and after that she stayed a week in Utrecht. Two Sundays ago, Doaitse, Atze and me took Lucilia on a trip through Rotterdam and the delta werken of Zeeland.

We started with the mills of "kinderdijk". Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy, limiting the view. Otherwise many more mills would have been visible.

Then we crossed the river using a ferry to get into Rotterdam. She's still nice to me here, but guess that 'll change when I become her hard working slave in Brazil ;)

In Rotterdam are these strange houses. I climbed up the roof to see how it looks from the inside, but that didn't reveal more, except that I grow nuts from the weird angles.

We crossed the Erasmusbrug, and took a tour along the harbours of Rotterdam (ECT and others).

We took a café-break in Doaitse's mobile home on one of the harbours, where we had a view on the Maeslantkering.

The following images speak for themselves:

Always annoying to get sand in your shoes.

We visited some more of the Deltawerken in Zeeland, and ended up at attraction park Neeltje Jans, with the main intention to see a video of how these Deltawerken are constructed, and for a boat tour past a "stormvloedkering".

A spare part of the stormvloedkering shows how big these components are. This spare part is now used for climbing and abseiling. I did not climb it though; didn't want to give the others a hearth attack.

Instead, we observed the feeding of seals.

And entered the hurricane simulator!

The following sequence of images indicates why I need to escape to Brazil:

Starting slowly...

Gaining speed...

You can guess what the final image looks like ;)

This big slide is definitely the best attraction of Neeltje Jans! Doaitse and Atze turned into young buys, running on the stairs, almost throwing a woman with child off the stairs just to be the first one up for another round. Not that I behaved much more mature. Nogmaals!

We had a nice day as tourists and Doaitse has been a great tour guide! Atze has more pictures on his website.
